This is definitely one of the more original titles out there that have come from Japan in the most recent months. Gal*Gun: Double Peace offers players the chance at finding true love for their character, Houdai, but in a sea of obsessed girls pawing after him. After an unfortunate shot from cupid, Houdai must fend off thousands of school girls to reach the one of his dreams. I normally enjoy anime and other Japanese titles that gets pumped out from the east so I was excited to try this out only to realize just how perverted it really is. That however doesn’t necessarily tarnish the title at all but adds to its humorous charm and entertainment.

Shooting Love Sick Girls: Throughout Houdai’s day he must shoot girls with his “pheromones” in order for them to become so overwhelmed by euphoria they faint. Yes it is that type of game and no you can’t see past their under garments but it’s smutty enough to let you do other things. This game really tests the players reaction time as some of the girls can be missed while aiming at others or when hiding behind obstacles during the rail sequences. Many hilarious moments happen when you find girls posed in awkward places or hiding behind trash cans to pop out at you. Each girl looks and sounds different from one another making the whole experience feel like you’re really traveling through a sea of individual females. The music is also upbeat and cute so otaku gents/ladies out there will really enjoy the whole atmosphere of Gal*Gun.

Well Made Mechanics: The shooting mechanics for the title are smooth and very responsive to the player allowing looking sensitivity can be increased in the menu if you’re one of the faster gamers out there. The targeting system shows what spots on the girl are usually the “sweet spots” ensuring that you analyze absolutely everything in Gal*Gun. There is even mini demons placed on certain girls by Kurona, a devilish-counterpart to Ekoro (the cupid that shot you) that wants to make girls torture Houdai. This certainly increases the difficulty of the game to a point where the player will need to strategically observe more than just the girls. It all comes together to make an enjoyable shooting experience not expected from such an ‘innocent’ title.

Lots To Offer: The replay-ability factor is significantly high as there are multiple pathways to play through, score attacks and more to perform after completing the game the first time. There is tons of replay value packed into this title when there are other directions to take on during a second run and alternate endings to unlock despite it being a rail shooter. Another set of objectives exists where you will need to find certain items on the map that are side missions on the phone which adds to your overall score and provides extra currency to spend at the Store as well. There is also a difficulty setting that makes it harder to pleasure the ladies since you’ll need to be more accurate in your shots which adds an additional challenge for skilled gamers out there. Gamers will be happy to find out that there is a semblance of an upgrade system that helps improves Houdai’s stats and makes gameplay easier through buying certain items at the store. There are other things to unlock at the store as well including a side-story on another girl who doesn’t seem affected by your curse.

Hard To Translate Humor And References: There are many instances when terms and humor for the game is poorly translated thanks to the very fact that it’s hard to do. While I’m sure they tried their best to convey it in English to the audience it’s still difficult to understand where it’s coming from unless you’re from Japan or have a deep understanding of Japanese culture and references. There’s many terms that Ekoro (the cupid-angel) who follows you and other things that will be lost on certain audiences. You’ll also notice from time to time the poor editing that may have slipped past while they were translating the subtitles to English. However, as far as this title goes, it’s only a slight blip in an overall fun experience!

Gal*Gun: Double Peace is undoubtedly an amusing title for those that aren’t overly offended by it. You need a light heart and slightly perverted nature in order to play it but it is still an entertaining on-the-rails shooter with good mechanics. There’s lots of paths to explore in extra play throughs and tons of unlockables to get for the girls in the school including bathing suits, special outfits and more. Players may be put off by the slightly poor translations of certain aspects but will hardly find this as a huge blemish on such a polished game as this. It has its frustrations but only from your lack of skill as a shooter that will have you coming back for more!
